A Warm Day at the Zoo

Another warm 62 degree day in Denver so we went to the zoo! All the animals were out...
Including the elephants...
The monkeys...
And the grizzly bears!
The carousel is always a favorite ride for the girls! Audrey chose the dolphin...
...and Sierra picked the cheeta!
There was a special bird exhibit where lories and lorakeets were flying all around us. One cute little lorie liked the girls so much that it kept licking Sierra's & Audrey's fingers!
It made both girls laugh out loud.
Last we saw the flamingos as we were on our way out!
Happy sunny Sunday everyone!

Hiking to the Royal Arch

Today was warm. 72 degrees to be exact. And, we were going to take full advantage of the day.

First, we assembled Sierra's demo karate team in our front yard for 2 hours of forms, and sparring practice.
Then at 11am, we heads to Boulder to hike the Flatirons.
It was a beautiful day. The girls were excited to be outside wearing leggings and short sleeve shirts.
There was a cool breeze that kept us cool while hiking up the steep side of the mountain.
We hit several icy patches where we slipped and skidded a few times on our butts, but it was well worth the effort when we made it to the top!
We saw the beautiful rock arch.
The hike back was much easier, but no less treacherous on the ice.
It was a great afternoon with the family hiking the 3 mile trail from Chautauqua, to Ski Jump, then up Bluebird Baird and up to Royal Arch trails.
Happy Saturday to all!

Crazy Hair Day at School

Today was crazy hair day at school. Not only could they make a fun hairstyle, but instead of wearing their uniforms, the girls also got to wear whatever clothes they wanted!
We made special bird nest hairdos complete with all the things a bird might find for her nest...
Like ribbon, flowers, straw, and colorful pipe cleaners.
I braided the Sierra's hair and made a fun flower circled nest for her little yellow bird to sit in. For Audrey, I did the same for 4 sweet butterflies.
Audrey looked like a "beautiful Renaissance girl" said her teacher!

The Photos are Here!

The girls loved their fairy photo shoot and were very excited to see the results.
The photographer added fairy dust and twinkling lights to all the images. A few of our favorites are shown below...

For the grand parents, we shipped a special surprise to you from the girls! We hope you like it!

Our Fairy Photo Shoot

For Valentine's Day, we got the girls a fairy photography session. Waiting was the hardest part since our appointment was one week after Valentine's Day!
But soon enough our date of arrives. The girls had so much fun dressing up, getting their hair done and putting on makeup!
They made severally poses...laughing, pretending to feed birds, talking to Tinkerbell, loving each other, and finally Audrey falling asleep on Sierra's lap while Sierra sat protecting her!

Sierra Made the Karate Demo Team!

Today after Sierra's karate class, she was invited to try out for the demo team - a group of students that are advanced enough to learn correographed karate demonstrations to perform at local competitions.
She will have the chance to win trophies and perform routines throughout the year.
Way to go Sierra! We are so proud of you!

Audrey's First Drop-Off Playdate!

Today, Audrey had the day off from school, so at 9:30 am Victor took her to her friend Sophia's house for a play date!
It was the first time she had the opportunity to be dropped off without me or Victor staying behind. Victor stayed for a while getting to know the husband and in-laws, then Audrey announced she wanted him to leave.
Surprised and sad, but also proud, Victor left to get a haircut and came back after lunch. Our little girl is growing up so fast!
The girls were playing with Hulk, the Hawk, from their class. They built him a nest so he would feel at home!
They were so happy! It was another gorgeous 65 degree day...perfect for short sleeves, capri pants, and no shoes!

The Greatest Park in Washington Park!

After visiting the science museum, we went for ice cream at Bonnie Brae's near Washington park. On such a warm day, the shoppe was very busy with no place to sit, so we decided to go to the park.
After the girls finished their cones, they raced to the swings, followed by the monkey bars and zip glider.
Below Sierra's slides across a muddy puddle. Both her and Audrey must have rode it at least 30 times! On about the 20th time Audrey got excited and fell into the mud getting her legs and butt soaked and muddy. She cried at first but got back up to try again. I was so proud!
Then Sierra had her turn to fall, but like Audrey, got back into it quickly!
We played until dusk enjoying every minute until it was time to leave. What a great day!
We hope you had as much fun as we did on our day off! Happy President's Day!

Visiting the Science Museum

Monday was President's Day so I had the day off work. For fun, we went to the science center. Outside was a huge statue of a wooly mammoth and the girls posed for a photo.
Inside, we saw amazing fossils of skeletons that were ten times out size! Audrey's favorite was a T-Rex...
The saber tooth tiger made a loud roaring sound as we approached the bust.
There were lots of activities in the discovery zone. Audrey found chalk to draw pictures, a digital art screen she could used digital brushes to paint a rainbow, and a light board where she made shapes out of pegs that illuminated in an array of colors!
We saw apotosauruses, stegosauruses, and lots of other dinosaurs we forgot the names of...forgetasauruses! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Sierra calls this dinosaur an amazing issues!
This showed the variety of sculls from the t-Rex to the duckbills to other smaller birdlime dinosaur skulls.
We had a great time. We missed the chocolate exhibit, but cannot wait to go back to see more.

What if Sierra was 100?

Sierra's class had fun pretending they were 100 in a project exploring family and aging. To help visualize what they might look like, a software app "aged" their faces as if they were 100 years old.
Sierra wrote that she would sit around watching tv, soaking in a hot tub, playing video games and having fun all day long! Ha!
