My Birthday Fun!

This morning I woke to find decorations strewn throughout our house, gifts wrapped, a beautiful cake, fresh mimosas and a birthday breakfast of eggs Benedict!

Thank you so much victor for planning such an extravagant morning!
Thank you family for making me feel so loved on my day!
I love you all!

Lair o' the Bear

For my birthday, we went on a hike to a place called Lair o' the Bear. It was a fantastic shaded walk by a rushing river that led us through high grass, river beds tall trees and rocks.

The girls had fun catching minnows, stomping through the water and just enjoying nature.
Sierra said this hike was the most beautiful one ever!
Even after falling into the river and getting completely soaked, Audrey had a ball. The cool water kept her cool on the hot 95 degree day.

As we walked the entire 1.7 miles, we were always close to the sounds of the rushing water.
The trees and rocks were so beautiful and dramatic to walk through and explore.
It was a great way to spend my day!

Both girls were zonked after the hike.

Thank you Victor for the wonderful birthday outdoors!

Pierced Ears for the Girls!

The girls have been talking about getting their ears pierced for months. So after a week of school and both girls doing so well on their assessment, we decided to just do it. Audrey was a little nervous, and Sierra was super excited...
But, when we got to the store, the girls switched emotions. Now Sierra was nervous and Audrey was excited. Audrey insisted on going first, and it was over in a flash!
Once it was done, Audrey was very happy and got to enjoy a lollipop afterwards!

Sierra was a big girl and sat in the chair all by herself. A few tears were shed, but afterwards she was very happy!

We enjoyed a celebratory dinner at a nearby restaurant and daddy was very proud of his girls for being so brave.
Way to go girls! We love you!

My Happy Birthday

Friday afternoon, my mom surprised me with two dozen beautiful, colorful birthday roses! Thanks mom! I love you!

Audrey's Time with Daddy

In the mornings, Victor takes the girls to school. Since Sierra is older she can play on the big playground without Victor at 8 am, so Audrey gets her daddy all to herself from 8 until 8:20 am when her class starts. They have lots of fun together...

Then at 11:15 am when Audrey gets out of school, they have lunch together and go fun places, like Bass Pro Shops! Today they saw baby ducklings in the shop's pond.
Tomorrow there is no school and Sierra has her first play date with a new friend, Jesse, from her 1st grade class. Class assessments are on Friday where the girls are tested on their knowledge levels.

A Note from Audrey's Teacher...

As parents, we hope our children will do well in school, make friends, be nice to others and learn. Today we received the following note from Audrey's teacher and it made us beam with pride:

Hi Dawn and Victor!

I wanted to send a quick note along to tell you about Audrey’s day at school.  She had another great morning!  On the playground she told me that she liked this school better than her Rhode Island school. :) Either way, I am glad that she is settling in well here!

During our choice centers time (right after drop-off), Audrey drew with markers and made a picture of the ocean.  When she was working, she used such descriptive words to tell me all about it – with a flaming hot sun, real diamonds at the bottom, and even snails!  I can tell that language is definitely a strength of Audrey’s!

Later in the morning Audrey built with magnet tiles. She made a pie and each triangle was a different color and flavor. Orange was orange, green was mint, red was strawberry, and blue was blueberry.  She is quite imaginative!  Audrey also interacted well with other students. When a friend would ask her to share a tile, she didn’t hesitate to share what she had.

I’m looking forward to getting to know Audrey better over the coming weeks!  See you tomorrow morning!

The 1st Day of School

Today was the first day of school for the girls. We got up early, adorned our uniforms, packed lunch, ate breakfast and drove to school to arrive by 8 am. Our new routine worked well.

Audrey was very excited to see her teacher, Ms Schmidt.
After taking Sierra to her class, Victor met Audrey for one last kiss and hug before her class began.

Our girls are growing up so fast, it's hard to believe Sierra is entering 1st grade and Audrey's in half day early childhood education (ECE) 4.

Sunday Pool Fun...

After our long morning hike, we decided to cool off at the puddle jumper pool. It was just what we needed to end our day.
Audrey was eager to dive in and swim. She also made the rounds to each drain to see if any ladybugs needed saving, and one lucky bug was discovered!
During the 15 minute break, the girls got cozy in our towels...
Daddy surprised us with dinner poolside! His girls showered him with love to show their appreciation!

Hiking the Rocky Mtn. Arsenal

For our last weekend of summer before school starts, we hiked the long trail around Lake Ladora at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. It was a cool day in the 80's with  shady spots around the lake to rest.
Audrey and Sierra both decorated their ballet bun hairdos with flowers from our walk hoping to attract butterflies.
We love getting out to feel the hot sun on our skin and hiking through nature.
On this particular hike, we saw lots of insects including a bright orange and black bug, a pink and black spotted bug, hundreds of caterpillars nestled on a single plant feasting on the leaves, tons of bumble bees, lots of crickets singing and flying about and several intricate spider webs.
Howard the end of our hike, we finally saw a bullfrog on the pond and a huge, lone buffalo crossing our path.
It was a great end to our hiking adventure!
Happy Sunday to all! After all this except use, we are headed to the pool!

Fun at the Mall with Daddy

After karate practice on Saturday, Sierra and Victor went to the mall to pick up Sierra's new eye glasses for school.

Afyer stopping for lunch, they discovered a bungie trampoline. Unable to resist such fun, Sierra strapped up to see how high she could bounce.

It was a fun and adventurous day for the daddy-daughter pair.

Meet the Teacher

On Friday, we ventured to High Tech Elementary to meet the girl's teachers.

Just last week, we found out Audrey was accepted to High Tech. We were so happy to have both girls at one school. Her teacher, Ms. Schmidt was very nice. We played games in her classroom and met other kids that will be in Audrey's class.
Sierra's teacher was Ms. Philipsen. We got to see her new classroom, meet kids and enjoy celebratory cupcakes in the cafeteria.
Both girls are excited to be in school so they can meet new friends and learn cool things. Monday is their first day so wish them luck!

Fun at the Pool

This sunny Sunday morning we went to the puddle jumper pool.  We arrived around 11am and stayed till 3.
We met up with neighbors John and Laura, and Nate and Dia! It was fun.
The water was cool and refreshing on such a hot day.
The girls played with their friends and swam for hours. We've only got a few weeks left before the pool closes for the season. Happy Sunday to all.

Much Ado About Nothing

Tonight we went to a Shakespeare play in the park. It was the girl's first play and we were hoping they would like it...and they did! The acting was superb. The play was hilarious.
We treated the girls to ice cream after the first act.
The story about love and the twists of fate made the girls laugh out loud. We were thrilled to see the girls enjoy it so.
It was a beautiful, cool evening!
Happy Friday to all.
